Aladdin Trailer Reactions: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

4. Jafar Has No Menace Whatsoever

The previous teaser left fans nervous about not only Genie but also Jafar, played by on-the-rise Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari.

Unfortunately this new trailer continues to suggest that Kenzari is most likely miscast in the part, with his flat, weak vocal register failing to convey the requisite menace fans associate with the character.

Now, you can argue that Jafar needs to be a little less of a cartoon character in a live-action movie, and a calmer demeanour would make him a more disarming antagonist, yet where's the charisma?

There's no emotion to his delivery, and even as a potential attempt at reinventing the character, Jafar just seems limp and forgettable.

Short of the next trailer - assuming there is one - showing off Jafar's more ostentatious scheming, there's no reason to believe that Kenzari will be able to hold a candle to his beloved animated equivalent.
