Alien 5: 10 Big Questions That Need Answering

1. Is Blomkamp The Best Fit?

Some have already been quick to kick back against Neill Blomkamp's appointment as the new Alien director. Because this is the internet, and people always have to get angry about something, and this is why we can't have nice things. Amongst the obvious trolls and Grumpy Gusses, however, some have managed to bring up some legitimate points. After all, whilst Blomkamp does seem well suited to the franchise in some respects €“ all his previous work has been in roughly the same genre, he's worked with Sigourney Weaver and other big stars whilst using Hollywood budgets, he's a whizz with the old special effects, the thematic stuff €“ in other ways, is he such a good fit? Every one of his previous films have been original ideas, or else based on short films Blomkamp himself made. He's used to doing things his way, something which didn't work out well for David Fincher or Jean-Pierre Jeunet when they made their respective Alien films. So maybe it's not such a dream team after all? Again, nobody's gonna have a definite answer to this until the film actually comes out. In the meantime, maybe keep the faith...at least until Chappie is released. Then you can possibly panic.
