Aliens vs. Predators: Ranking The Films From Worst To Best

8. Predators (2010)

On paper, Predators has an engaging concept. Taking place on an alien planet where game from other worlds, including Earth, are brought to be hunted by the Predators, the possibilities for what the film could do and where it could go were endless. With 20 years having passed since the last film in the franchise was released, it seemed the next logical step in the series€™ development beyond simply rehashing the same plot from the first two films in a different Earth-set location. Although the film embraces its R rated roots, showcases some slick designs for the Predators, takes a peek into their social hierarchy and even brings in the always-entertaining Danny Trejo and Walton Goggins, it€™s cut down at the knees by some disappointing choices. Beyond some minor involvement of other alien game, the film doesn€™t dive headfirst into its premise to pit the human characters against a vast universe of species locked into their survival instinct while trying to avoid their demise from their hunters. Laurence Fishburne is absolutely wasted in a role that serves only to provide exposition and an unnecessary twist, Adrian Brody is miscast as the lead hero, nearly bringing the film to a screeching halt every time he opens his mouth to share his €œBale-voice€ Batman impression and a last-act twist involving Topher Grace€™s character is woefully misguided. After two decades of waiting to see where the Predator franchise could go, Predators instead tried to play it safe, stumbling three steps back for every positive step it took forward.
