2. Hugo Dies...Again

Because dying once wasn't enough of an indignity, poor Hugo bites the bullet yet again at the very end of the film.

In his new cyborg body, he decides to try and climb his way to the prosperous sky city known as Zalem, but Nova sets off a security thresher in order to stop him, which dices him up and leaves him hanging off the edge, desperately grasping Alita's hand.

But physics wins out as it always does, and Hugo's arm gives way, sending him falling back to Earth while Alita lets out an anguished cry.

Unfortunately the cringe-worthy slow-motion, overwrought musical score and generally unearned nature of the romance make this more worthy of laughter than tears. Oh dear.
