12. Best Costume Design

WINNER: The Favourite*

The Best Costume Design category has a clear period movie bias, but given the opportunity it lends costume designers to get flashy and ornate, it's not remotely surprising.

As a result The Favourite's gorgeous embroidered gowns should run away with the award here. And this is also the single category this year that the Academy pretty much got totally on the money.

All of the nominated movies boast memorably luscious costume choices with a decent amount of diversity both within and between them. Any of them could be rightful winners, but The Favourite just went that teensy bit further.
