Alternative Oscars: The Nominees & Winners For Every Category

7. Best Original Song

Before The Flood Leonardo DiCaprio
National Geographic

WINNER: Before the Flood ("A Minute to Breathe" - Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross)

Though Leonardo DiCaprio's climate change documentary sadly didn't have much of an impact on the U.S. Presidential election, the film was nevertheless a passionate call to action, bolstered by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' haunting tune written for the movie.

A Minute to Breathe cements the urgency of the climate change issue, and how future generations will judge society by what it does today. It's nowhere near as popular or catchy as what will eventually win (La La Land's "City of Stars"), but on sheer merit a much meatier and more important song.

RUNNERS-UP:

2. Moana ("How Far I'll Go")

3. La La Land ("City of Stars")

4. Sing Street ("Drive It Like You Stole It")

5. Sausage Party ("The Great Beyond")
