The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 10 Things It Did Right

4. The Visuals Are Downright Spectacular

There will be many who will be quick to cite The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a "cinematic video game," given its extensive - and to be fair - downright excessive use of CGI. That said, at least the CGI is good. And not just "good" - in some places, the effects work on show here is kind of mind-blowing, and a large step-up from some of the stuff we witnessed in the first installment, which did the job, but looked fairly unconvincing in places. Sure, the finale might have been rendered entirely on a computer, but the level of artistry involved is still impressive. Special props go to whoever worked on Electro; despite looking like a nightlight for the sum of his villainy, there's still a sense of human being about him. Whenever he unleashes his electrified fury, it's something to be awed at. Seen in 3D, the film still looks good, but it's still recommend you ditch the glasses to avoid the scenes looking distractingly dimmed. It's also important to point out the spectacular slo-mo scenes (mentioned earlier), which temporarily allows audiences to step inside Spidey's shoes as he analyses the action with his trademark senses.
