The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 24 Easter Eggs, References & In-Jokes You Need To See

16. Max Dillon's Super-Fan Cupboard

There's something very Jim Carrey as Edward Nigma about Jamie Foxx's performance as the socially cast off Max Dillon, and that is firmly to his benefit. When Spider-Man saves him during the opening sequence, he immediately forms an obsessive bond with the character, that manifests itself as a near-schizophrenic dynamic, and leads to Dillon setting up a shrine to Spidey in his apartment. As part of the shrine we see a Spider-Man action figure, as well as newspaper clippings, as well as what appears to be a Chinese movie poster. A set image from Dillon's apartment also showed that he has a copy of Fahrenheit 451 pride of place among his Spider-Man paraphernalia, perhaps foreshadowing his metamorphosis from unseen cog in the corporate machine, to liberated spirit in a very literal way.
