American Assassin Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

1. Michael Keaton's Deliciously Entertaining Performance

American Assassin Michael Keaton

Without question the best thing about the entire movie, though, is Michael Keaton's crackerjack performance as CIA handler Stan Hurley. He's the only actor who actually seems to know what kind of movie he's in, and he has a ton of hammy fun as a result.

He's charming, he's bada** and he gets easily the best one-liners throughout, so it's almost a shame the movie isn't focused more on him, because he steals every single scene he's in.

Thankfully, he has a significant role throughout the film and doesn't pull the classic Hollywood A-lister trick of randomly disappearing or being killed half-way through, but the movie absolutely didn't deserve such an entertaining performance.

While he didn't remotely embarrass himself, you've still gotta hope he got handsomely paid off the back of this one (though with that budget, probably not).
