American Horror Story: 10 Scariest Villains Ranked

3. Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie

American Horror Story Apocalypse Finale
FX

When it comes to sadistic and monstrous villains in American Horror Story, it's hard to find one as monstrously sadistic as one Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie from Coven, the show's third season.

Portrayed by Kathy Bates in her AHS debut, LaLaurie was a viciously cruel New Orleans socialite from the 1830s who would torture and maim her slaves so that she could use their blood as a beauty product. And if all that weren't bad enough, she'd also repeatedly abuse and belittle her daughters, once locking them in her torture chamber for a year as punishment.

When her cruelty led her to evoke the wrath of Marie Laveau, however, she was condemned to immortality and buried alive in a box where she'd remain until she was unearthed by Fiona Goode decades later.

Now resigned to be the coven's maid, LaLaurie was stripped of her status and power but was still as vile as ever despite Queenie attempting to change her ways.

In the end, viewers gained some catharsis as this horrific character finally received some long overdue justice for the pain and torment they caused.

Moreover, this character is based on the real-life Delphine LaLaurie who brutally tortured slaves in her New Orleans home.
