An American Pickle Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. It's Short & Snappy

An American Pickle Seth Rogen
Warner Bros.

This is a movie which smartly knows its limitations and sprints its way to the finish-line in a breezy, easily digestible 88 minutes.

Spending just a few short scenes to set up its madcap premise, it's a film which absolutely benefits from never sticking around in one place for too long.

Though far from the funniest of Rogen's movies, it avoids the typical modern Hollywood comedy pitfall of feeling overly reliant on improvisation and letting scenes drag on for far too long. Looking at you, Ghostbusters 2016.

There's a tightness to the movie's pacing which suggests some disciplined cuts were made, rather than Trost simply throwing in every sliver of available material just because.

This helps ensure that, despite its low quotient of big laughs, it's an easy, relaxing sit of a movie and never anywhere close to a chore.
