6. Nick Nolte Steals The Show

Angel Has Fallen Nick Nolte
Lionsgate

Without question the standout element of this film is the supporting role played by Nick Nolte as Mike's father Clay, an absentee father and survivalist who gives his son a helping hand in the middle of the movie.

And Nolte deserves a ton of credit for taking a potentially silly role seriously and absolutely nailing some hefty dramatic beats.

When he delivers a sobering monologue about his time at war and how he abandoned Mike with his mother, there's a genuine solemnity to his performance that's entirely believable and, honestly, clearly belongs in a much better movie.

His banter with Butler is both oddly sweet and, at times, unexpectedly funny, helping broaden the film's tone and veer away from the ugly mean-spiritedness that made the previous entry such a depressing experience.

Nolte commands the movie every second he's in it, which is thankfully quite a bit.
