Annihilation Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

6. The Jaw-Dropping Visuals

Though there are the aforementioned CGI issues, more often than not this is an utterly ravishing film to look at, from Rob Hardy's lush cinematography, through to the immaculate, thoroughly convincing production design, and the imaginative nature of the increasingly trippy visual effects.

To that end it's a shame that most of the world won't get to experience Annihilation in an actual cinema to soak in the full impact of the impeccable production, but it is nevertheless a remarkably imaginative achievement that persuasively distinguishes itself from the aesthetics of other similarly-themed sci-fi offerings.
