Another Blake Edwards/Peter Sellars remake, THE PARTY

Peter Sellers' 1968 cult hit The Party is set to be remade, Hollywood writer/producer Marco Garibaldi is returning from a long absence in the medium (he was last seen directing episodes of The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) to form his own production company and make this his top priority. Rather boastingly, his new company Godfather Entertainment will make movies in the $20 million range, a budget he claims he can use more efficiently than the big budget studio's and will attract talent by creative back-end deals. It's ironically the second of Blake Edwards' classic movies from his peak period to be remade after the Dudley Moore comedy 10 was picked up several weeks back. Where I was in favour of a 10 remake - I'm not so sure I wanna see a new take on The Party especially given The Hollywood Reporter's description...

The original film centered on Sellers' Hrundi V. Bakshi, a bumbling Indian extra accidentally invited to a glamorous Hollywood party, with Sellers hamming it up in a series of loosely connected vignettes. In the new version, only part of the conceit is the same: a hapless blond Midwesterner will have his appearance changed to resemble an Indian by a zealous studio eager he fit a part. Garibaldi says that he sees the movie as ripe for a number of star cameos, all of whom will attend the titular party

I'm not sure this kind of innocent comedy can be matched today...
