Ant-Man And The Wasp: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

One of the most exciting things about Ant-Man and The Wasp - much like Captain Marvel too - is that it promises to take a look at the greater history behind the MCU. Pym's days as a spy and the flashbacks to his time working for SHIELD were some of the most interesting aspects of the first Ant-Man film, so it would be a huge surprise not to see them explored further in the sequel.

The idea of placing superheroes in a historical context has always been something that, whilst not only fascinating, has led to critical and cultural reverence time and again, with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen exemplifying this approach and then some. It's certainly something that DC are more known for, but, when it comes to film, a bunch of Marvel projects have been utilising this trope for some time now, with Fox's X-Men series specifically having grounded their characters in the sixties, seventies and eighties (Dark Phoenix will also purportedly see the group in the nineties).

Captain Marvel is another character due a nineties setting, and, with the promise of a fully fleshed-out MCU timeline on the cusp of being realised, could it be that Marvel are now making a concerted effort to delineate the origins of their onscreen universe? If so, then surely Ant-Man and The Wasp are the perfect vehicle in which to do so.

Like, who doesn't want to see a young Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer doing spy stuff in a spy setting? Certainly, if it means more Marvel-ised period pieces are on the way, then sign us the heck up right now.
