Aquaman: 10 Major New Details We Just Learned
8. Black Manta Is Out For Revenge
Despite being an archnemesis of Aquaman, Black Manta isn't the main villain of this movie. That honour falls to Patrick Wilson's Orm, but Manta will nonetheless be an important secondary villain with a score to settle. He's going to lose his father in an event he blames Aquaman for, which drives him to get revenge, with actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II telling Collider:
"...He’s lost the only person who he’s ever loved, and cared for, and been able to show any type of, you know, expression, or those types of characteristics to. And then, from then on, you know, “It’s Aquaman’s fault!” He has very little else to live for, and so it becomes that revenge story. You have the relationship between fathers and sons, and the revenge that happens when a son loses his father, and then you have Aquaman, who is the heir to the throne, who doesn’t want to be king, so it’s an epic story."
This is, however, just the first part of Manta's story, with the actor saying there are all kinds of routes they can go down with the character in the future, while JoBlo's visit also reveals that there's a connection between him and Orm to be made in the movie.
