Aquaman Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. It Doesn't Take Itself At All Seriously

Aquaman's tone can perhaps be best compared to the original Thor, because while both of them have a certain Shakespearean portent, they ultimately make light of it and revel in their absurdity.

While as mentioned this sometimes results in Wan taking things too far to the side of goofy, more often than not Aquaman's tone is agreeably daft and far from the depressingly sombre tenor of earlier DCEU efforts.

A serious Aquaman film would've most likely been an abject disaster, so while this version serves up a little too much cheese than is healthy, it still keeps things sensibly light and unpretentious.

It didn't need to play quite so broad overall, but Aquaman isn't too far away from fun in even its most unfortunate moments.
