1. The Bloated, Self-Indulgent Runtime
Though Aquaman deserves mild praise for keeping up a pretty decent pace throughout, it also clocks in at a wildly overlong 143 minutes.
Despite the general simplicity of its story, the script sends the central characters around in circles several times before arriving at the film's finale, when clearly a far more streamlined and concise plot was possible.
It's an especially bizarre move as Warner Bros. previously mandated that Justice League had to run less than two hours, and while that movie clearly would've benefited from an extra 15-20 minutes, Aquaman probably could've done with being over in two square hours.
While this film certainly never becomes boring, you might be left feeling a tad exhausted by the end of it. You get a lot of movie here, but as Hollywood has proven so many times, often less is actually more.
