Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs
2. The Humour Mostly Falls Flat
The original Aquaman wasn't exactly a laugh riot, but it at least harnessed the goofy goodwill of Jason Momoa for some decent chuckles, yet this sequel? Not so much.
From the early indignity of watching Arthur's son urinate in his face twice to the half-baked buddy comedy vibes between Arthur and Orm, it all feels like played-out, low-hanging fruit.
Even the most undemanding members of the "I had fun!" crowd will struggle to derive much enjoyment from the humour here, which is largely just witless and overly reliant on the charms of the cast - who, bless them, can only do so much to elevate it.
There's not a single, honest gut-laugh in the whole movie, despite the film's many, many attempts.
