Ashley Greene and Hayden Panettiere offered lead roles in SCREAM 4!

Scream 4 casting and character details have leaked over at The Hollywood Reporter, giving us a big sense of how the original trio (Neve Campbell, The Arquette's) will relate to the new generation of victims that Wes Craven will slaughter on screen when filming begins this July in Michigan. And even though there's barely anything to go on (the script is under strict lock & key - even the talent auditioning barely know what they are reading), there's enough for me to make a prediction on who Kevin Williamson has wrote as the killer. Potentially anyway... We now know that the lead character is Jill, a cousin to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. Twilight actress Ashley Greene has been offered the part. Heroes' actress Hayden Panettiere has been offered the part of Jill's best friend, a nerdy film geek (yup, the killer is her, I'd say). Essentially, Jill is the 21st century version of Neve Campbell and her best friend is a mixture of both Rose McGowan and Jamie Kennedy's parts from the original movie. Rory Culkin has been offered the love interest part. Although offers are out to the above, the only actor firmly in talks right now is Lake Bell who would play a police officer who knew Sidney from high school - though it isn't a relationship we have seen explored in the previous movies. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter say Cathy Konrad - a producer on the original movies - has filed a $3 million lawsuit suing The Weinsteins for being 'cut out' of the new movie, which she claims was developed behind her back. Scream 4 is set for an April 15th 2011 release. DISCUSS: What do you make of the offers put out to Greene & Panettiere - are they really modern day equivalents to Neve Campbell and Rose McGowan from the original?
