August brings on the MONSTERPOCALYPSE for Burton

With the announcement that Dreamworks and Tim Burton are developing an adaptation of Matt Wilson's fantasy model game Monsterpocalypse the first question you have to ask yourself is; What part will Johnny Depp play? The second question is the same but supplanting the words 'Johnny Depp' for 'Helena Bonham Carter'... We're a way off hearing the answers to those questions for the time being, but what we do know - according to Heat Vision blog - is thatBig Fishscribe John August is currently deciding which mega beast battles what uber-droid. August has also pennedCorpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Burton in the past, but he also has some good scripts on his C.V. such as Go, Charlie's Angels (well, I enjoyed it) and his directorial debut, the muddled but intriguing The Nines. He is also developing a feature length adaptation of Burton's short film Frankenweenie for a slated 2011 release. A ugust also has one of the best websites out there for any wannabe screenwriters, and regularly writes on his own thought and production process, giving surprisingly honest and down-to-earth insight onto the bureaucratic and creative wranglings of the Hollywood industry. Burton, of course, currently can do anything he wants as the toilet water bubblings of Alice in Wonderlandjust took a ridiculous sum of money - and growing - at the worldwide box office. Whether he'll actually want to direct 'Monsterpocalypse' remains to be seen, though there was a time - back before Roland Emmerich did it - when Burton was circling an adaptation of Godzilla. He wound up makingMars Attacks! instead, which shares a similarly anarchic bent with this project, so perhaps getting to helm this will rub some lotion on some dormant creative itches. Regardless, expect someone to sit in the chair on this inevitable summer tentpole that, perhaps, will end up re-titled 'Monsterpocalypse 3-D'?
