Ava DuVernay To Direct "A Wrinkle In Time"

Golden Globe-nominated director helming Disney's adaptation of literary classic.

Superstar director Ava DuVernay has officially signed on to direct the film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic young-adult fantasy A Wrinkle in Time. The script for the Disney film will be written by Frozen screenwriter Jennifer Lee. DuVernay, who is the first African-American woman to win the Sundance Film Festival's Best Director Prize (Middle of Nowhere) and the first African-American woman to be nominated for a Best Director Golden Globe Award (Selma), was reported as having been in talks for the role earlier this month. She is currently also in negotiations to helm Intelligent Life, a DreamWorks sci-fi film co-written by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow and potentially starring Lupita Nyong'o. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbb0JppubDY First published in 1963, A Wrinkle in Time is the Newbery Medal-winning story of Meg Murry, a 13-year-old whose quest to find her missing scientist father takes her, her younger brother, and a friend to the furthest reaches of the universe and imagination. Though a fantasy story at heart, it also incorporates ideas associated with quantum physics and advanced science. It is considered a seminal classic of children's literature and spawned four follow-up novels, all written by L'Engle.
