Avatar: The Way Of Water Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

6. The Excellent Ensemble Cast

Even though the Avatar movies aren't the deepest, The Way of Water at least benefits from its committed ensemble cast.

The clear highlights among them are Sigourney Weaver, who while rather peculiarly lending her voice to portraying Jake and Neytiri's adopted teenage daughter Kiri, brings endearing sass to the character.

And then there's Stephen Lang, inexplicably returning as Na'vi-Quaritch, the particulars of which won't be spoiled here.

Lang's gravelly voice and snarling facial expressions translate quite superbly through performance capture and ensure he's one of the film's most full-bodied characters.

Elsewhere Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis are terrific as Ronal and Tonowari, the leaders of the reef people clan, and the various young actors playing Jake and Neytiri's other children are sweet and believable without being precocious or annoying.

In even its silliest, most oddly-scripted moments, at least the cast is swinging for the fences.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
