Avengers 4: 11 Things It Must Avoid
6. Rekindling The Bruce-Natasha Romance
Infinity War did a fine job of reuniting Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) without overtly leaning into their romance that was first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
After all, it was perhaps the most widely-maligned element of that movie, an agonisingly forced subplot that further bloated out an already overlong film. In the MCU's generally poor history of love stories, this is certainly one of the worst.
With Infinity War nodding at their history, will Avengers 4 flat-out rekindle the romance between the two? Given how much the movie already has to work through and how much vitriol the pairing gets from fans, it's clearly better left implied.
Will It Happen?: If the movie does indeed end with Banner dying, you can bet there will be a sentimental farewell between himself and Natasha. The Russos and their writing team generally keep romance a pretty minimal aspect of their movies, though they might be tempted to give in to their baser instincts this time.
There probably won't be an overt romantic subplot featuring the two, but a smaller reference similar to Infinity War? Absolutely, and that's basically fine.
