His Avengers 4 Fate: The imminent MCU departure of Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man is a commonly discussed topic, and it has been for quite some time. And although he's continued to stick around, Avengers 4 looks like it might be his swansong.

There's in-movie evidence to support an Iron Man retirement scenario - like he and Pepper getting married and settling down, something Infinity War teased - but there's real-life evidence too.

Downey is getting ready to kickstart another franchise with Doctor Dolittle, and he's also returning to another - Sherlock Holmes - for a second sequel. This is a man whose non-Marvel filmography (since 2011) consists of a cameo in Chef and a role in The Judge. Him preparing to star in two separate blockbusters is rather telling.

Marvel won't kill off Tony and Cap in the same movie, and of the two, Cap seems the more likely to die. Tony started the MCU in 2008, and he'll get to ride off into the sunset having saved it, ten years later.
