The MCU is no stranger to recasting certain roles, but when it comes to their biggest characters, can anyone honestly imagine anyone else in the part of Tony Stark, or Steve Rogers for that matter?

Well, neither can Kevin Feige. In an interview with Variety in 2016, the Marvel Studios head mentioned that, when it comes to Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans specifically, he "couldn’t imagine anybody else" in those roles. High praise though that may be, there's nothing to stop Marvel from potentially venturing down the recasting route, though it's one fans are unlikely to appreciate.

The difference between these Marvel characters - as well as Evans and Downey in particular - is that they've been around for a long time. This isn't another James Bond or Sherlock Holmes, where cinematic interpretations come and go every other decade or so - these characters have transcended to a level of synonymy with their actors that, for better or for worse, the thought of having anyone else inhabit them just doesn't make sense.

When it comes to the Marvel Universe too, it's not an option they even have to take. Legacy is there to be utilised, and with Bucky in place to assume the mantle, could anyone honestly pass on the opportunity of seeing Evans behind the camera this time, in light of his past comments on directing?
