Avengers 4 Theory: The REAL Reason Captain Marvel's Name Isn't Used... Yet

2. They Tease The Name Throughout The Film

Although Carol is never referred to by her superhero name in the film, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck plant the seeds for that reveal to come later.

There's the previously mentioned presence of Mar-Vell, which is then twisted into 'Marvel' during Fury's lovely little rendition of Mr. Postman, and then of course you have Danvers' military title too: Captain. As Boden states in a conversation with Empire - "You see that she was ‘Captain Carol Danvers’ when [Fury] has her file at the very end, so Captain is there if you want it."

Fans should probably just go ahead and assume that Marvel do indeed want it. The film's called Captain Marvel after all, and with them never having shied away from superhero identities in the past, it stands to reason that they'll want Carol using her superhero namesake as soon as it's convenient.

Fortunately for Disney, it becomes extremely convenient in Endgame, a film as much about closing the door on older characters as it is cementing the next generation of Marvel heroes to lead the way on screen.
