Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 15 Theories That Were Utter Bull
6. No More Happy Romances
The Theory: Both Iron Man and Pepper and Thor and Jane Foster have split up in the run up to the film. Probably because the Avengers are too busy busting HYDRA bases to care about working on their relationships. Also, Betty Ross might have turned up to ruin Black Widow's attempts to "play hide the zucchini" with Hulk.
The Supposed Evidence: Neither of the "love interests" were confirmed as cast in the film. And Liv Tyler was rumoured to be making a cameo.
The Reality: Betty Ross apparently doesn't exist in the MCU anymore. Just accept it.
Meanwhile, Jane and Pepper are merely absent. They're literally not even invited to parties that happen late at night because they're "at work", but they're still very much important because their men compare how much better they are as partners than the other. Feminism.
Would It Have Been Better? It would have made more sense to have Jane and Thor broken up, and Pepper should just have been killed in Iron Man 3 to make Tony's PTSD worse (and avoid any contractual disputes with the notoriously not-at-all-difficult-to-work-with Gwyneth Paltrow).
It's cruel to cut out Betty Ross, but it was ultimately the right call for the culmination of Hulk and Widow's arc.
