Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 8 Things You Need To Know About James Spader's Ultron

4. He's Totally Insane

Sure, some of the evil stuff that Ultron's gonna be doing throughout the second Avengers film is gonna be down to him just not knowing any better. After becoming self-aware, all he's got to go in is the wisdom imparted to him by his €œparent€, ie whatever Tony Stark programmed within him. But that's not enough for him to got totally bat-sh*t crazy. There's something else going on there. He's a crazy person. Amongst personality defects such as having a God complex and being incredibly self-absorbed, as identified by James Spader himself, Ultron is literally supposed to be a robot gone mad. His artificial mind, for whatever reason, is in some way broken, and that causes him to act out. By, y'know, trying to destroy the Earth with a robot army under his command. In fact, Spader was asked to compare Ultron to the secret agent-turned-high-profile criminal he plays in the NBC drama The Blacklist. Whilst Raymond €œRed€ Reddington remains calm, collected and in control at all times, Ultron goes through violent mood swings, sometimes in the middle of a scene. €œRed isn€™t psychopathic but Ultron is. Yes, he is psychopathic. He€™s really batsh*t crazy!€ says Spader.
