Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Ways The Heroes Could Save The Day

Who's going to take the robot down?

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled for release around the world in less than one year. The superhero epic will feature an ensemble cast that includes a veritable plethora of actors portraying Avengers and a supporting cast of fellow A-listers. It is likely to smash box office records and has movie fans the world over eagerly anticipating its arrival. The fact that there are a vast array of heroic characters in the movie means two things: first, it means that Ultron will need to be presented as a very powerful character to pose any kind of threat to them and, second, it means the heroes have a number of ways in which they could ultimately defeat the evil robot. So who will get the job done? Could Marvel's golden boy Iron Man, as played by Robert Downey Jr., land the finishing blow? Could the demi-god Thor, as portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, use his immeasurable power to seal Ultron's fate? Could Hulk, motion-captured by Mark Ruffalo, smash the puny metal man? Or will someone else claim the glory and earn the gratitude of their team-mates? In this article, WhatCulture.com takes a look at some of the ways in which the various members of the titular superhero team could defeat their mechanical nemesis. Here are ten ways the heroes could save the day in Avengers: Age of Ultron (contains Marvel Cinematic Universe spoilers)...

Honourable Mention: Jocasta Switches Sides

In the comic books, Jocasta is created by Ultron to be his mate and to serve him unconditionally (she's programmed that way). Ultron intended to sap the life-force from Wasp in order to permanently animate Jocasta, brainwashing Hank Pym in to carrying out the procedure for him. However, when Jocasta herself learned of Ultron's plans, she alerted the Avengers to his whereabouts and they defeated him. Now, although there will be no Hank Pym (and probably no Wasp) in Avengers: Age of Ultron, they could be replaced by Tony Stark and the as yet unnamed character Claudia Kim is set to play (for example), meaning that Jocasta could be key to Ultron's defeat in the same way she has been in the comic books. She could then be utilised by the Avengers in future movies.

Second Honourable Mention: Nick Fury Provides Shelter

Towards the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, after previously being thought to be dead, it was revealed that Nick Fury was alive. He subsequently went in to hiding and has since appeared in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, where he has handed over the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director duties to Phil Coulson and disappeared in to the wilderness, claiming he would be "everywhere". As such, he will no doubt be a prominent character in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Although he is very unlikely to land the finishing blow, the potential help he could offer the Avengers could be invaluable. As Ultron brings his unique brand of robotic destruction to Earth, Fury could provide the titular team with shelter in one of his many secret bases (perhaps in the Savage Land, where the heroes ended up in the comic book arc of the same name). This offering of shelter could provide the protection and time the team need to come up with a plan of attack and, therefore, could be vital in preparing to finish Ultron off.
