Avengers: Endgame - 10 Best Moments
10. A Rat Basically Saves The Universe
It's fair to say that most fans assumed Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) would figure out a way to escape from the quantum realm after spending five years trapped in there, but as it turns out, his liberation is a result of pure chance. A 1 in 14,000,605 chance, to be precise.
Hilariously, Scott isn't freed through his own ingenuity - in fact, the five years only last five hours in the quantum realm - but thanks to a rat, which just so happens to be crawling around the impounded van where the portable quantum tunnel is housed. The rodent then unknowingly trips a switch which allows Scott to return.
It's especially amusing when you consider that Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) likely witnessed tons of alternate outcomes where the rat just clumsily fumbled around the van and almost activated the tunnel, and this was the only single version where it defied the odds to ensure Scott's freedom.
From a screenwriting perspective, it's a pretty clever way to lampshade the convenience of Scott's return. "What are the odds?" Exactly.
