Avengers Endgame: 10 Unexpected Consequences To Reversing The Snap
9. Those That Were Left Behind
Endgame’s narrative takes a little look at the emotional cost of Thanos’ snap, but on a personal, individual level.
But we’re not just talking about bereavement - we’re talking about loss and grief on a global scale. Think of the devastating effect that 911 had on the United States as a whole - well, that was an attack that killed less than 3000 people, 0.001% of the population. Multiply that by 50,000, and then expand that loss, that grief, to the whole world.
Suicide rates will have spiralled. Everyone will have lost someone; most will have lost far more. This is the kind of overwhelming, incomprehensible tragedy that would bring all of these suddenly smaller communities together; create new family units out of the remains of old ones.
So you’d think that the reversal of the snap and the return of all those who’d been lost would be an automatic win for everyone, right? For many, yes - but what about the spouses who’ve remarried, moved away? What about the young children who’ve grown five years older in someone else’s care?
Then there’s the people - a tiny, precious few, hopefully - who don’t want their snapped back. What about the wives who magically lost their drunk, violent husbands, or the kids who lost the person who’d been abusing them? Thanos remodelled their world too… and not necessarily for the worse. Now those weak, dangerous people are back: confused, angry and looking to reclaim what they believe is theirs.
