10. Tony Stark Is The Villain

The Rumour

Now, here's a left-field suggestion: what if the reason why Thanos shows so much affinity with Tony Stark is that he sees himself in him? Well, not just himself, but the model for real supervillainry in general...

According to one 4Chan "leak" (courtesy of someone on the vfx team, apparently), Tony will be made immortal by the Celestials in order to undo the snap and will decide the cost of superheroes is too high, so will decide to take it upon himself - in his new guise as Kang The Conqueror - to get rid of all heroes.

The rumour is very much a labyrinth of nonsense at times, but that idea of Tony becoming a villain for the good of the universe does really fit.

Tony very much has it in him to be the same as Thanos - which is sort of the point of his arc. He's been so focused on saving the universe that he's effectively become a zealot, talking about the greater good, creating his own army for "the protection of the Earth" (and then Ultron) and turning against what is morally right because of his emotions. That's why anyone would believe this sort of theory.

But it's all very Star Trek, isn't it? That's not the worst thing ever, but the MCU is nothing like Star Trek and suddenly pulling something like this would be a HELL of a swerve. That doesn't make it a BAD idea, of course. It's just probably not going to happen.
