Avengers: Endgame - 25 WTF Moments

9. Hawkeye Makes No Sacrifice

The whole rule of the Soul Stone, as set out in Infinity War almost exactly a year ago from point of writing is that it is difficult to get hold of. In fact, it requires the person who desires to possess it to make a sacrifice of the thing they love the most. Thanos gives up Gamora in a moment that adds humanity to his convictions. It's touching. We all talked about it.

And then in Endgame, Black Widow and Hawkeye make it to Vormir and despite landing miles away from where the Stone is being kept and having no clue as to where it is (much like War Machine and Nebula have no idea where the Power Stone is, so knocking Peter Quill out makes no sense either) make their way to see Not Red Skull Anymore.

There, they learn they have to make a sacrifice and duly squabble before Nat kills herself in the name of the Big Picture and Hawkeye gets the Stone. But how? He made no sacrifice. By rights, Nat makes the sacrifice for him, so she should have the Stone, shouldn't she?
