Avengers: Endgame Review - 11 Ups & 4 Downs

9. The Commitment To Spectacle

As with Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame is deeply invested in grand moments. Unlike Infinity War, they don't come particularly frequently, because the focus is mostly on one extended set-piece in particular which forms the centre-piece for the final third of the movie.

In short, that final third is some of the most breath-taking, bewildering, astonishing film spectacle anyone will ever witness. Not just in terms of comic book movies. Not just in war movies. And it would be entirely unprecedented were it not for the fact that the Russos did it once already with Wakanda.

Still, the spectacle here feels just like what you'd expect of a second part: it is an escalation. There are more characters, more team-up choreography, more meme-able moments and it's all so incredibly intoxicating that you won't remember any of the holes or messiness or self-indulgent hints up to it.
