Avengers: Endgame - What Does The Ending Really Mean?

9. What Happens With Captain Marvel?

For all her arrival in Endgame was well-hyped by both the post-credits scene of her own movie and the trailers for this one, Captain Marvel isn't in Avengers: Endgame all that much. She plays a key part in the first act, as she rescues Tony and Nebula from space and goes to help defeat Thanos, and then re-emerges in the battle towards the very end, but is otherwise missing from the film.

When she does return, she takes the fight to Thanos and attempts to take the Gauntlet off him, something she almost succeeds in before he takes the Power Stone and punches her away. That leaves a lot of ground to cover in her sequel.

For starters, there are gaps in what she was up to while the rest of the Avengers were travelling through time. There's a big five-year gap where she was off being a Space Avenger, and was doing something presumably so important she didn't or couldn't return until later in the battle (or simply didn't get the memo), which could be filled in, much like the time between her solo movie and Endgame.

Another question is how she takes her part in the battle. She tried to stop Thanos, and he beat her away. Will she see that as a defeat? And if so, how will that impact on the character - given her incredible confidence throughout the movie - going forward?
