Avengers: Endgame's Most Confusing Plot Holes EXPLAINED

2. Wait... Loki Escaped Again?

Here's where the movie gets a little too carried away with experimental time fractures, and it's likely because Tom Hiddleston's Loki TV show was being put in place during its production. Still, I have an explanation, but it's also tied to the next point, too.

In the scene itself, Captain America, Tony Stark and Ant-Man attempt to dive back in to the Battle of New York in 2012, only to get knocked down by original Hulk, right at the point they were about to escape with the Space Stone (the Tesseract). This leads to Loki picking up the Tesseract and teleporting away, only for us to continue watching Cap, Stark and Lang erect a Plan B.

The natural thought process is that Loki escaped, creating a time fracture; an alternate reality where he escapes back into New York, or does whatever else comes to mind with his newfound freedom.

As we need this theorised timeline to work as one though, this could easily be where Loki's "What If?"-themed TV show comes into play. Doing so makes perfect sense as there could be a gap where Loki possesses the Tesseract for a time, only to return it to Odin's vault for Thor: Dark World.

This contradicts Banner's claims that "you can't change your past", but there's also the idea that he was eventually stopped by Captain America.

"Wait... what?!" you scream. Well...
