12. Thanos Destroys Xandar

The opening of the film is going to establish exactly how much of a big threat Thanos is, and given that we know Thanos gets his hands on the Power Stone first, that spells possible disaster for its protectors. That means we're going to see Xandar in deep peril early on, which the Nova Corps aren't going to be able to do much about since Thanos wins the Stone.

And there's no way he'd leave a loose end when he could use the Power Stone for an almighty show of power against his new enemies. That would work best as the destruction of the entire planet.

Sadly for the Nova Corps, this one looks very likely. Thanos needs a big entrance and we already know he has the Power Stone by the time he gets his hands on the Tesseract and that has to come early in the movie as he meets Loki (who has the Stone) in the post-credits for Thor: Ragnarok.

It would make sense, then, that Xandar falls in the opening sequence before an Earth-set introduction and then Thanos' ship meeting Thor's refugee ship before Thanos heads off to find The Collector and the Space Stone.
