Avengers: Infinity War - 8 Biggest Reveals From The Tie-In Comic

8. Hawkeye Has Officially Retired (Again)

Love them or hate them, Hawkeye's family is set to feature again in Avengers: Infinity War, with the most recent tie-in placing Barton well and truly away from the superhero routine and back at his ranch.

Logic would've perhaps dictated that Barton, now a fugitive of the law, would remain on the run with Steve and the rest of the supposedly 'secret' Avengers. Instead, he's chilling with his wife and kids again, and while that would in theory paint a target on their backs, Barton's home has been off the books for years now, consigned to secrecy by Nick Fury when he was still Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In any case, it's clear that this retirement will again only be temporary. Hawkeye has been pictured suited and booted in both Infinity War and Avengers 4, and with rumours implicating his family in a rather tragic event, one that compels him to again pick up the bow and potentially adopt a new identity, the fact he is at home in this comic could yet lend weight to those rumours.

Granted, Barton's constant resurfacing could be seen as a bit of a gag at this point, but one can't help but get the feeling that the reason for this Avengers call-up, is one steeped in tragedy...

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
