Avengers: Infinity War - 8 Compelling Theories About The Hulk
7. Banner Can't Control Him
Ruffalo has also hinted recently that Hulk's "changes" are seeded in Thor: Ragnarok, which perhaps explains what we've seen in the Ragnarok trailers of Hulk seemingly rejecting his friendship with Thor and willingly attacking him in the Grandmaster's arena.
The likelihood is that something inspires that rampage (as ever), but if you also take into account the promotional shots of Banner in human form and Thor meeting on the planet away from the battle (and their joyous embrace), you have to imagine that there's a disconnect between how Banner sees Thor and how Hulk does.
Taking that disconnect to the extreme, could it be that there's even more of a rift between the two identities? There's always been that Jekyll and Hyde element to his character portrayal, but we've not really seen a great deal of that conflict spelled out in the MCU so far.
Having Banner consciously trying to resist changing into Hulk, rather than being able to switch at will as he did in The Avengers, changes the dynamic entirely, and goes heavier on the monster movie element of his characterisation.
