15. Star-Lord Shoots Gamora...With Bubbles

When Thanos grabs Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in the burned-out remains of The Collector's (Benicio del Toro) museum, Star-Lord attempts to make the save, but Gamora reminds him of the promise he made, to kill her if her adoptive father ever gets hold of her again.

After an emotional declaration of love between the two, Quill finally fires his gun at Gamora, only for bubbles to shoot out of it and the gun to pop out of existence, it having been created by Thanos and the Reality Stone.

It's a great moment of character development for Quill, who had to literally pull the trigger on the woman he loves, yet her ultimate fate was of course reserved for later in the movie.

For as much of a wise-cracker as Star-Lord is, this superbly highlighted just how well Chris Pratt nails the serious stuff too.
