Avengers: Infinity War - Mysteries Answered

1. How Do The Deaths All Relate To Avengers 4?

Everyone is still processing the veritable ash-pile that was Infinity War's ending, and while it might be difficult to contemplate Avengers 4 potentially being even deadlier, there are connotations to consider regarding Thanos' climactic snap.

To begin with, all the Avengers who pass on - Bucky, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, Groot, Scarlet Witch and Falcon - all represent the future of this franchise. Their deaths are all equally horrific (Bucky and Parker's more-so), but it's important to remember that - imperilled though we may be at this stage - Spider-Man will return in a Homecoming sequel in 2019, and that it doesn't negate the years' worth of foreshadowing Bucky's had to wield the shield of Captain America.

Those who have survived - Cap, Tony, Widow and Banner in particular - are the old-guard of this series. They're the ones who made it, and while they'll likely also be the ones to save it, the fact they're still around may not bode well in the end. The Avengers, in their original form, are clearly gearing up to defeat Thanos and bring their loved ones back. What cost that'll take is anyone's guess, but it's likely that the appalling loss of life shown at the end of the film will spur both Hawkeye and Ant-Man to step out of the shadows for the upcoming sequel.

More haunting, perhaps, is the fact that the heroes are actually split in two, ten on either side of the mortal coil. Perfectly balanced, as Thanos believes all things should be.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
