Controlling life and death is definitely a more nuanced definition than simply "can wipe out as much of existence as you like." And the obvious distinction here is that word "control", which implies more than the ability to kill or resurrect - instead it seems to suggest life and death are a more fluid construct.

Could this mean that the Soul Stone will be the key in the end again? Probably.

Difference To Comics:

Obviously, there are rumours, but we are yet to see confirmation that the MCU's Soul Stone is the gateway to an idyllic pocket universe of Soul World. Other than that, it's pretty much just as it was in the comics.
