Avengers: Infinity War Review - 9 Ups & 3 Downs

8. The Story Progression

Infinity War Star-Lord
Marvel Studios

The important thing to remember going into Infinity War is that the build-up for the last decade doesn't only matter when it was dealing directly with the Infinity Stones. Each of the characters has gone through something important and taken them to this point and everything they've done impacts the story direction of Infinity War.

The whole MCU is about the individual choices and mistakes of heroes given the responsibility of guarding the Earth and the galaxy, the cost of that - both to them and to the world - and their accountability. Infinity War deals with all of that - in terms of the themes of PTSD, belonging, control, accountability, passion that leads to mistakes - in such an organic way that it's honestly incredible that the script-writers and the Russos have managed it.

Even with 90 minutes plus of solid action, the character pay-offs are some of the biggest and boldest moments in the entire piece.
