20. Loki Has The Tesseract

The end of Thor: Ragnarok heavily implied that Loki regained possession of the Tesseract (aka the Space Stone) from Asgard's vault, and here he is wielding it.

Going by Loki's eyeline, he's looking up at Thanos and most likely giving the Tesseract to him. Whether or not he's been coerced out of fear or is actively working with the Mad Titan again remains to be seen, but were you ever really expecting Loki to be a truly unambiguous force for good? Sure, he'll probably become heroic again by the end of Avengers 4, but come on...

A prior shot also shows Loki walking through the rubble of what might be the Sanctum Sanctorum, going by the mage-like robes being worn by the dead bodies in the fiery rubble. Did Loki launch this attack in tandem with Thanos? Doctor Strange is gonna be pi**ed.

19. Thanos Arrives

After years and years of waiting, the big purple guy himself has finally made his first significant appearance in the MCU. Thanos is first seen walking through a portal into the aforementioned orange, apocalyptic locale, though it's not immediately clear exactly where this is.

Thanos isn't wearing his full armour so he's clearly not expecting much of a fight from The Avengers, though what's really remarkable here is the incredible CGI look of the character.

Yes, some are already complaining that he looks too much like Bruce Willis, but as far as digital Marvel creations go, he's easily one of the best so far, and Josh Brolin's brilliantly menacing voice sure doesn't hurt either.
