Movies don't exist in a vacuum, and though both Infinity War and Endgame were released to rapturous responses from fans, their true worth will be measured by how they're received long-term.

After all, The Dark Knight continues to be held up as perhaps the greatest superhero movie of all time, though The Dark Knight Rises opened to wide acclaim only to end up nit-picked to death once the honeymoon period was over.

With its uniquely villain-focused narrative, slick set-pieces and pitch-perfect ending, Infinity War feels like it will always endure as an all-timer superhero classic.

Endgame won't be far off, but with its larger canvas and sloppier storytelling, it does also feel likely to receive its fair share of backlash in the coming months, once the fan service-infused glow has worn off somewhat.

That's not to say it'll be rubbished by most fans, but simply that they'll be more willing to accept its flaws.

WINNER: Not to undermine Endgame's incredible accomplishments, but Infinity War stands up far more confidently as a tight piece of blockbuster storytelling.
