BAFTAs 2020: 10 Ups & 5 Downs

3. Jojo Rabbit Wins Best Adapted Screenplay

Jojo Rabbit nabbed just one of the six BAFTAs it was nominated for, with writer-director Taika Waititi nabbing the Best Adapted Screenplay award. But as entertaining and poignant as the film might be, was it really the most deserving of the five nominated films?

There were especially strong cases for Steven Zaillian's epically ambitious script for The Irishman and Greta Gerwig's unconventional adaptation of Little Women, and by comparison, Waititi's solid work just doesn't really feel worthy of the gong.

For Jojo Rabbit, the nomination really should've been the win, yet with the BAFTAs being the final major awards stop on the way to the Oscars, this certainly solidifies the prospect of Waititi winning his first Academy Award.
