Batman: 80 Greatest Ever Moments

18. Damian’s Return - Batman & Robin

DC Comics

When Morrison introduced Damian in the pages of Batman and Son, little did fans know that the writer planned to kill him off right from the start. Damian meets his end in Batman Incorporated, making the ultimate sacrifice against the Heretic, and it seemed as though that would be that.

Although Morrison got to close the book on his character, DC believed that it should've been the first chapter and not the definitive ending. Wayne later returned in the pages of Batman & Robin, and though fans tend to get a bit miffed at comics' 'revolving door' approach to life and death, the way it was handled by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason ensured no one was concerned with clichés.

17. “I'm Awake” - Heart Of Hush

Paul Dini is a name BTAS fans will instantly recognise. The writer scripted some of the series' most beloved episodes, including Harley & Ivy, Almost Got 'Im and Heart of Ice, while having also co-created the character of Harley Quinn alongside Bruce Timm. Needless to say, his actual Batman comics have also been pretty great.

One such comic is Heart of Hush, which saw the eponymous villain steal Selina Kyle's heart. Bruce stops at nothing to get it back, and when he does, he stays by Selina's bedside, eventually confessing his love to her while he thinks she's asleep.

Only, she isn't. The two finally kiss and reaffirm their love for each other, putting an end (temporarily) to the constant cat-and-mouse routine they had going up until that point.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
