The problem with the Bat-Family is that they have only been shown in what are really considered the worst Batman movies. With the exception of the most recent Chris Nolan film, even Catwoman has been largely ignored. The perception of the Bat-Family in popular culture is that they, especially Robin, are just cheesy side characters. In the comics though, the bat-family have characters and stories that are just as developed as Batman himself, and have been central to every major storyline in the DC Universe. Not only do these characters deserve screen time, but they are essential to the massive new world of DC movies. Now, they should probably not all be in the film, and certainly not introduced all at once, but these characters need to be there. Here are 5 reasons why.
5. Central Characters
Batman first appeared in issue #27 of Detective comics, and Robin in issue #38. In other words, the Bat-Family has been around in some form almost as long at Batman himself, indeed almost as long as superhero comics. Yet, the characters have barely appeared in live action depictions of the Caped Crusader. Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon especially are not only pivotal characters in Gotham City, but in the DC Universe as a whole. If the new line of DC movies is to create one large cohesive world, these characters and their siblings need to be a part of it.
