Wonder Woman took place during World War I, but Snyder reveals that the original plan for Diana Prince's solo movie was much different. "Before we shot [the Wonder Woman] scene for the movie, we shot a placeholder," he confirmed. "We had shot it previously from the Crimean war because it was the first conflict where photography was used. We talked about using the Civil War."

Well, that certainly would have changed the Amazon Warrior's solo outing in 2017! The Crimean War took place in the mid 1800s, and was fought on the Crimean Peninsula between the Russians and the British, French, and Ottoman Turkish. The American Civil War, meanwhile, took place in the same sort of time period between the northern United States and the southern United States.

Snyder went on to explain that he wanted the photo Bruce Wayne discovered to emphasise just how long Diana had been around, but the decision to choose the Crimean War took place before Wonder Woman was written. As a result, the photo was changed during Batman v Superman's post-production.

A sequence like this would have successfully highlighted the hero's immortality, but it's easy to see why Warner Bros. and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins ultimately went with a conflict better known to moviegoers.
